About Jesper

Jesper was founded in 1935 and established as Hundevad & Co. It was run by cabinet makers who paid high attention to quality and traditional woodworking skills. In 1990 Hundevad & Co. was bought by Tonny Haahr, an entrepreneur and founder of several kitchen cabinet and furniture factories in Denmark. The company changed its name to Jesper Office when Hundevad merged with Jesper International, another Danish furniture manufacturer.

Today Jesper is a highly efficient furniture factory that integrates modern machine technology with traditional woodworking skills. The factory is still located where Hundevad started. Jesper Office also has its own veneer factory in the Ukraine.

Much like Copeland, Jesper Office believes in the preservation of the environment and in maintaining clean manufacturing processes. Their furniture is made with contract-quality chipboard composed of pressed wood shavings and wood veneer, which is resource-effective and earth-friendly.

About Copeland

Copeland Furniture began in the 1970s as a small one-man operation that made wood products, such as cider presses, from natural hardwoods. They evolved and produced kitten furniture and Adirondack-style porch furniture. Their designs now are influenced by Arts & Crafts, Mission, Shaker, and Scandinavian styles.

Thirty-three years later, Copeland is now based out of a innovative manufacturing facility in Bradford, VT. The company is embedded in their local community and combine cutting-edge computer technology with traditional craftsmanship.

Copeland continues to use natural hardwoods in its furniture, and with continued exposure to direct light the colors of the woods will deepen over time. Copeland also uses sustainably harvested hardwoods from the American Northern Forest. Lumber they use comes from a 500-mile radius of the factory. This means far less fossil fuel is consumed and less carbon dioxide is emitted via transportation. Copeland is also Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. This means that Copeland’s hardwood suppliers must verify that the wood comes from forests that are not threatened, do not have high conservation significance, and do not contain genetically modified trees. Copeland was also awarded Silver Exemplary Membership Status by the Sustainable Furnishings Council. This certification means that Copeland:

  1. uses 15-25% FSC-certified wood
  2. uses 1-25% non-wood products made from recycled or bio-based materials
  3. has completed a Carbon Footprint Report that includes detailed analysis of its energy usage
  4. is showing a positive impact on supply chain improvements as a result of sustainability efforts

About Ekornes

Ekornes ASA is the largest furniture manufacturer in the Nordic region. It owns the Stressless brand, which is one of the world's most famous furniture brands. Products are manufactured in Norway and marketed all over the world.

Ekornes' vision is to be one of the world's most attractive ergonomically designed suppliers of furniture for the home. Their business concept is to offer products that, in terms of both price and design appeal to a broad audience. In addition, the group aims to develop and manufacture products offering excellent comfort and functionality.

The Ekornes company began in 1934 by Jens Ekornes and three employees. They began by manufacturing spring used inside furniture and mattresses, and these springs were sold to companies throughout Norway. Once the production of the springs was established, Jens Ekornes developed an interest in the mattresses themselves. At an exhibition, Jens saw a mattress whose interior consisted of a large number of springs linked together on both sides by steel coils. He understood at once that this system could also be used inside an ordinary mattress. As soon as he got home he started to try this concept. It wasn’t until 1966 that Ekornes launched its first collection of lounge furniture. As the first furniture manufacturer in Norway, Ekornes distributed information about its products. For the first time, furniture was launched with a brand name. The Ekornes family acquired the public company Vik & Blindheim Møbelfabrikk AS, which became Svane Møbler AS. In 1971, the first Stressless chairs were launched on the Norwegian market. The success of Stressless lead to a major expansion and automation of the steel department. This expansion took Stressless and Ekornes into the most expansive chapter of its history. In 1977 Ekornes was the largest manufacturer of furniture in Scandinavia. Revenue for the Stressless collection exceeded NOK 100 million in 1980, and a new milestone was reached. Exports showed a positive trend. A three-year sales campaign by the export firm Westnofa started in the USA. Since that time, the USA has been the largest export market for Ekornes.

Stressless® was introduced in 1971, as the first recliner designed to meet your body’s need for movement and support when seated. The characteristic TV-recliner was a revolution in comfort and functionality, and soon became an international success.

Our store has compiled a list of feature benefits of Ekornes Stressless® chairs.

1. Leather is full top-grain cowhide. The hides are bought from leading tanneries throughout the world. Ekornes® own inspectors are part of a rigorous selection process, which includes the most stringent international standards as a minimum requirement for quality control.

2. Top-grain leather is also used on the back and sides of the seat.

3. The seats have an articulated headrest. The headrest aligns with the lumbar support, so the head is always positioned to maintain eye contact.

4. Chairs feature lumbar spring support. Stressless® lumbar support synchronizes with the Glide system to provide continual support for the lower back.

5. Ekornes® chairs and sofas come in four different grades of leather.

a. Batick is corrected aniline-dyed, pigmented and grain-embossed upholstery leather. Most natural marks are removed. The protective layer of lacquer allows spills to be easily removed, making this leather easy to clean and a popular choice for those who want a more resilient leather.

b. Classic is corrected aniline-dyed, pigmented and grain-embossed upholstery leather. However, it has a larger pebbled grain and is thicker than Batick. Most of the natural marks are removed but some may still be slightly visible. A protective layer of lacquer allows most types of spills to be easily removed.

c. Paloma is aniline-dyed upholstery leather with a combination of dyes and pigments in the finish. Paloma has a natural grain pattern with visible natural marks. The light finishing treatment improves the physical properties and provides a more uniform color. Paloma has been developed to produce a very soft, rich and friendly feel. This grade of leather also has the most color options.

d. Royalin is the heaviest and most exclusive Ekornes® leather type. Royalin is aniline-dyed, upholstery leather with a natural pebbled grain with visible natural marks. A very light surface treatment has been added for protection.

6. Leathers are dyed with pure aniline.

7. Sleep mode is available in Stressless models. The sleep function is an extension of the unique Plus™ System. The user can choose whether the headrest is to be in the reading or sleeping mode when the chair is in the reclining position. The sleeping mode allows the head to fully recline with the chair.

8. Foam of the chairs is cold-cured close cell foam. Foam is molded directly over the steel frame to cushion your body. This process means that what you sit in now will be what you sit in 10 years from now.

9. Ekornes® provides a 10 year warranty for the frame.

10. Ekornes® features 7 finishes of wood.

11. Stressless® recliners have adjustable tension wheels. Simply adjust the Stressless® Glide wheels to the setting of your desire. You can automatically shift to any seating position simply by using your body weight.

12. Chairs have a Lazy Susan base. The base of the chairs allows the user to swivel the chair and face different directions.

13. Ottomans have a tilt feature. They are designed to provide comfort for everyone, regardless of size. When the user reclines, the legs move forward - now Stressless® ottomans have a new built-in glide function that moves with the legs for extra comfort.

14. Different sizes are available. Most models come in at least three sizes – small, medium, and large.

15. Leg options are available on sofas.

16. Some models feather a height-adjustable headrest. Even though it is adjustable, the headrest also provides the sleep mode.

17. Chairs have a double-stem base. This ensures stability and durability.

18. Ekornes® Stressless® recliners are the only chair endorsed by the American Chiropractic Association.

Below are some of the chairs that we carry in our stores in Longmont and Boulder. Feel free to take a look, and please come in and try some of the chairs and sofas.

About Skovby

Skovby history dates back to the 1930s when Thorvald Rasmussen went against the judgments of many of the period and founded the company during the depression. He borrowed a small sum of money from his mother and started taking orders for handcrafting various pieces of furniture. His hard work, skills and business abilities brought his small company safely through the thirties. The company is still family owned today.

During the 1970s, exports grew substantially and allowed Skovby to enter into other markets including the United States. In the 1980s the company began establishing and investing in other markets, including the Far East as well as other European markets. In the mid 1990s Skovby streamlined its quality dining room collection by offering a greater range of concept furniture rather than individual pieces. This translated into many of today's remarkable designs and innovations found throughout the furniture collection. The goal was simple: to provide functionality and quality.

In 1987, accomplished designer Per Hånsbæk joined the Skovby furniture family and brought with him a love of design, function and practical consumer innovations into the Skovby line of furniture. He has been the main partner in the creation of many of the successful Skovby designs found throughout the line and continues to help create and design innovative and functional furniture collections.

Every piece of Skovby furniture is made in three different factories located throughout Denmark. Skovby continuously expands its production needs by bringing in up-to-date technology and machinery for use in building Skovby products.

Danish furniture is part of a rich culture of products from the Scandinavian region which represent quality, form and function in every piece of furniture made. Skovby carries on these traditions handed down through generations of furniture and cabinet making that began with Thorvald Rasmussen and the hard work, skills and attention to detail that have made quality Skovby furniture products recognized throughout the world.

We carry various Skovby products at both of our locations. Attached are some photos of the dining table and dining chairs in the Boulder store. Longmont photos will be coming soon.
